DON JUAN AVILA MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Common Core State Standards for seventh grade mark an important transition from sixth grade in two ways. First, the transition from learning to read to reading to learn is complete. Second, the standards for seventh grade are more sophisticated in:  word analysis, fluency, vocabulary development, reading comprehension (with an emphasis on informational text), analysis within literary response and argumentative essays, technology, and listening and speaking in a variety of formats. To build these skills and become college and career ready, students will: read, write, engage in technology, work collaboratively, and practice public speaking. This will be an academically challenging, but rewarding  7th grade year.   By mastering these standards, students will leave 7th grade feeling confident in their skills and abilities-making the transition into 8th grade virtually seamless.   We look forward to another successful year at DJAMS!
